Basetsana Kumalo wraps up final episode of Top billing.

Popurlar lifestyle magazine Top billing had become a household name in both South Africa and Zimbabwe. The show was famous for its exclusive updates on fashion, glamour, cooking, grand homes, weddings and tourist sites. Producer and co owner of Tswelopele production Basetsana Kumalo rounded off the final episode by inviting the Top billing crew into her home and opening up about her journey.

The show came to a halt after having aired on SABC 3 for nearly 27 years. Dubbed “the best of the good life”, the show provided viewers with details of the finer things in life such as eating hotspots, well constructed homes and top notch decor. It also featured up class weddings of celebrities. Speaking on the show Basetsana had these words,”This show exemplifies excellence and sophistication in arts, design, decor, fashion and broadcasting, creating countless jobs and building careers in its many years on air”.

Several presenters had been roped in over the years including Lorna Maseko and Bonang Matheba. The end of Top billing cones in the wake of Basetsana’s book launch. In the last episode of the show she stated,” Writing my memoir has been a most intense, yet cthatic,liberating and healing journey. I laughed, cried, counted my blessings…standing in the light of my own story,in my own voice”. Basetsana had patnered with Patience Stevens to come up with Top billing, a show which saw a lot of inspiring stories being told.

Celebrity chef, Siba Mtongana said people had become accustomed to Top billing as it introduced them into a world of glamour. She said top billing had become a casual adjective when reffering to a fancy wedding or something spectacular.She waherself was first featured on the show in 2016. Many other celebrities also commented on the show having run for so long.

Basetsana remarked,”Every show has a beginning and an end and reaching a quarter of a century for any production is one great feat. Thank you South Africa for allowing us in your homes for 25 years. Sending the love right back”. Basetsana first hogged the limelight after being crowned Miss South Africa in the 1990’s.
