We all need it and we all know how hard it is to save money. For many of us, saving money requires us doing things we not used to. Perhaps we were never really taught how to manage money, or maybe we simply avoid thinking about it because the situation is so hard. In order to see things really turn around for the long run, we need to incorporate some simple money-saving habits. Creating a realistic budget and sticking to it is a great way to help you save for the things you really want. If you’ve taken out a loan, budgeting will also help to manage the repayments.

If we really want to save money, we have to increase our awareness of money. This means knowing each month how much we have, what we’ve spent our money on, what our goals are, and where we stand in terms of reaching those goals. To do this, we must take the time each month to balance our checking accounts. When we don’t, we just continue to spend money, we avoid thinking about it, and then we feel awful about ourselves when reality sets in.
Start with these steps and notice how a greater awareness of money helps you keep a little more of it in your wallet!

Do a grocery list and Never Shop Hungry
it’s simple. People who shop on an empty stomach buy more than they need and they also buy excess junk food. Always take time to write a list when shopping because when we don’t, we spend more money.

Use Your Wallet
This habit sounds too simple to make any difference, but the act of sliding money into your wallet can help you to be more aware of your spending. That awareness is a key part of having the resolve you need in order to save money. When we keep money stuffed into a pocket, or floating around inside a purse, we don’t always know what we have on hand, and it becomes easier not to think about how we choose to use it.

Banks
Check the banks for a different interest rates for both savings and loans. Don’t just go with anyone go with anyone, get the best rates possible.

Sell Sell Sell
Everybody has unwanted goods lying around their home gathering dust – Well, you might as well sell them and with the cash you get you can invest for the future.

Budget
The first way to save money is to identify what you have to spend and what your weekly costs are. Budgets aren’t boring, saving hard earn cash can be exciting when you have a long term plan. Budgeting your money and controlling your spending is the first step towards saving more money.

Eat At Home
Stop eating out and start eating at home you will save a lot this way and you will know what is in the food. Help save money by preparing your food at home and creating fresh food.

Pack Your Own Lunch
Don’t buy lunch every day or you’ll rack up the costs when you could save money by making lunch yourself.

Quit Vices
Quit smoking and other vices that not only hurt your health, but they also cost you a lot of cash in the long run.

Leave Your Money At Home
Don’t take your wallet or purse with you when you go window shopping. At worst take a few rands with you but leave the plastic at home.

Stay Healthy
Exercise and eat right because healthier people have lower medical expenses – It must be true then that healthier = wealthier…..Maybe?

Use Energy Saving Light Bulbs and turn off lights
Save money on energy costs. Create a little ambience and save energy. Never leave the light on when you leave a room.

Grow Your Own
If you can grow your own fruit and vegetables then you should give it a try because you can benefit from delicious organic produce and save money. Many people start out using this as one of their favourite strategies to save money. Maybe you will too?

If the best things in life are free then you can look forward to a world of possibilities. Parks, beaches, mountains and country sides offer a variety of locations to enjoy the great outdoors and the best part is most outdoor activities are good for your physical health
