Beit Cambridge Scholarship For Zimbabweans

Applications are now open!

The Beit Trust has formed a partnership with the Cambridge Trust and Global Leaders to support students from Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe studying for a Master’s degree across a range of subjects, at the University of Cambridge. Nearly all MPhil subjects are eligible for this scholarship, but there are some exceptions (see below). These are fully-funded scholarships intended for students who wish to use their education to contribute towards positive change in their own countries, and who have the potential to become future leaders. Up to two scholarships may be awarded in any given year, commencing in 2015.

To be eligible, students must be nationals of Malawi, Zambia or Zimbabwe, they must hold at least a good undergraduate degree and they must be able to obtain a student visa to the UK. Preference may be shown to students who are unable to independently finance their studies. Students must also comply with the University of Cambridge English Language Requirements. See Useful Information for more information.

The application procedure for this scholarship consists of two steps. Students must first make an application to the Beit Trust, who will conduct initial interviews in-country, and then apply to the University of Cambridge. The Beit Trust, Cambridge Trust and Global Leaders will then select students from those who are accepted by the University, to be the recipients of the Beit Cambridge Scholarship.

The Beit Trust

The Beit Trust was founded in 1906 to support development in the countries that are now Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe, initially through the construction of bridges, railways, airfields and other means of communication. In 1946 the Trust started supporting education in these countries by providing students with scholarships to aid their studies at universities in southern Africa, Ireland and the UK. The Beit Trust currently offers scholarships for both Masters and PhD degrees.

The Cambridge Trust

The Cambridge Commonwealth, European and International Trust was established on 1 August 2013. The Trust was formed from the merger of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust. These were both established as charities by the University of Cambridge in the 1980s in order to provide financial support for international students on degree courses at Cambridge.

The aim of the Trust is to enable candidates of outstanding academic merit, who would not otherwise be able to take up places at Cambridge, to pursue courses of study or research. It offers awards to selected students at PhD, Masters and undergraduate level in all subjects, and at all 31 Colleges of the University of Cambridge. Awards, which include both full-cost and part-cost scholarships, are made only at the beginning of a course of study, and continue for the duration of the course.
