Stern test for Knowledge Musona

By Brian Chifamba

When one of Zimbabwe’s most prolific strikers Knowledge Musona made a big money move to German Bundesliga outfit TSG Hoffenheim there was huge expectation on the “smiling assassins” shoulders.
Life in Germany would turn out to be a nightmare for Musona who struggled to get any game time at Hoffenheim resulting in the Aces Youth Academy product being loaned out to another Bundesliga side FC Augsburg.
Though handed with an opportunity of redeeming himself Musona’s stint at Augsburg was a difficult one for the Zimbabwean forward. Desperately needing to reinvent himself the warriors’ striker returned to Kaizer Chiefs the club where he rose to fame.

Like his first stint at Kaizer Chiefs the smiling assassin was prolific in front of goal, linking up well with Bernard Parker. Despite Amakhosi’s desire to cling onto Musona, when the Zimbabwean’s loan move to Kaizer Chiefs ended, the warriors’ striker outlined his desire to return to Europe, a continent that has always been his preferred destination.
Following months of speculation Knowledge Musona eventually found his way to Belgium where he signed a two and half year contract with KV Oostende. Despite huge expectation on Musona’s shoulders, it has been a difficult period for the smiling assassin who has struggled to help his side in the Belgian league.
The smiling assassin who is yet to find the target in the Belgian league seems to be struggling to settle, allowing frustration to creep into his game. The smiling assassin was red carded as early as the 6th minute in KV Oostende’s 2 nil loss to Club Brugge outlining trying times for a player desperate to impress the KV Oostende technical department.
Following previous periods of frustration in the German Bundesliga it will be interesting to see whether Musona can rise and make a mark in the Belgian topflight.
