10 Zimbabweans Who Have Won Prestigious Awards

These Zimbabweans are raising our flag high in their respective fields. They make us proud to be Zimbabwean and it’s great when the world recognizes the work that they do. From Politics to Arts and sports, we are proud to call them our own.

Here’s our list of Zimbabweans who have won the most prestigious awards.

1. Robert Mugabe- Amongst many awards that President Mugabe has won, is the highest academic honor the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) has ever bestowed, and established a scholarship in his name.

2.Kirsty Coventry-  Kirsty has won the South Eastern Conference (SEC) swimmer of the year for two years in a row.

3. Oliver Mtukudzi- He has won a KORA award for best African male artist and Lifetime Achievement Award in August 2003.

4. Chengerai Hove- Chenjerai has received more than ten awards for his poems and writing, amongst them is the prestigious International Writers Project, Brown University.

5. Strive Masiyiwa- He is the youngest person ever to receive the Zimbabwe Businessman of the year award.

6. Trevor Ncube- He was awarded with the German African award for his dedication for press freedom,human rights and democracy in Southern Africa.

7. Kevin Ullyett- Ullyett won 34 doubles tittles during his career including two Grand Slams at the 2001 Open.

8. Charles Mungoshi- He was received the  Commowealth Writers Award twice in 1988 and 1998.

9. Brian Chikwava- For his book “seventh street alchemy was awarded the 2004 Caine Price for Africa award.
