Skating to rock Glen View 3 this weekend

A flock of skaters are expected to be in Glen View 3 this weekend to encourage people to take up skating as a way of keeping healthy and engaging in physical activity which is vital in shifting the youth away from some of the vices of ghetto life such as taking drugs and engagibg in crime.

The initiative is beng spearheaded by Jibilika who are renowned for having come up with one of the biggest music festivals in Zimbabwe. The founder of Jibilika Plot Mhako is believed to be behind the skating initiative which is set to be held at Glen View 3 shops on Saturday. The event is expected to begin at 9am in the morning and the people of Glen View are being encouraged to be part of the skating initiative.

A craze for skating has hit countries such as Kenya in what is believed to have been fueled by a growing middle class and a love for speed. Zimbabwe is looking to embrace skating and transform it into a phenomenon which will have a positive impact on society by shifting the focus of youth away from some of the social ills that include partaking in drugs.

With many forms of skating having emerged over the years Saturday’s skating initiative will have a focus on skate boarding, an action sport which involves riding and performing tricks using a skateboard.
