Zimbabwean-Australian Based Zii Releases “This Is AfriKa” Song On AfriKa Day

Australian based Zimbabwean rapper Zii has unleashed a new song dedicated to mama Africa. The song which is called “This Is AfriKa” is a collaboration Zii did with fellow well known Zimbabwean poet Tariro Mavondo, South African award winner Sifaniso Bophela, rising star Ceeko also from South Africa and Melbourne based Diafrix’s MoMo.

Zii who holds a Masters in IT, moved to Australia to study but it seems he has found a new home in Melbourne and a different career in music.

“Imagine a world where love really isn’t a maybe, where my skin color is only a representation of an expression that God had to show individuality and character”, he says. “I believe this is possible and that’s why I choose to wave the flag” Zii continued.

Zii’s aim and ambition to bring light and positivity to a continent that has been stereotyped by the exact opposite is a step closer because of the song “This is AfriKa”. Although he fulfilled his dream of working on the song with Diafrix, Zii made sure he included some African sounds and rhythms to honor his culture.

Zii says he wants to change people’s perception of Africa. “This song might not do that but it might start the conversation and through social media #thisisAfriKa and the #waveaflag campaign, I aim to highlight the beauty that Africa holds and possibly bring peace through music”.

“Dr Cornel West once said, “music is what we need when language fails us but we cannot remain silent”,” he said.

This Is Afrika comes out today as we celebrate Africa Day.
