Zim juniors struggle at squash championships

Zimbabwe’s junior squash team which traveled to the Netherlands for the World junior squash championships had a tough time at the global junior squash tournament where the country’s three players failed to register a single victory.

Carley Barton lost 11-2, 11-0, 11-1 against Casey Wong of the United States in the first round of the squash tourney.  The first round defeat relegated Barton to the women’s world junior individual championship plate category. Barton’s quest for glory in the plate event was also a tough one after losing to Switzerland’s Celin Walser 11-0, 11-5, 11-2.

Carley Barton capped off a miserable tournament by losing to Daniek Krukkert of the Netherland’s 11-4, 11-0, 11-4 in the consolation plate section.

Another Zimbabwean at the junior championships Shannon O’Donovan lost her first round tie to Switzerland’s Sarah Ludia 11-4, 11-4, 11-2. In the plate section O’Donovan got byes in the first and second rounds only to forfeit her third round tie against Canada’s Grace Thomas.

Kuzivakwashe Madungwe was soundly beaten by Akanksha Salunkhe of India 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 in the first round.
