Mrs Mphoko was on her way to Oriental Plaza (a mall in Johannesburg) when they were followed by a white Hyundai. The robbers disguised themselves as policemen, one of them reportedly had a pistol and the other men had knives. The Vice President’s wife was traveling with her doctor daughter and other people.

The central provincial police officer confirmed the robbery but said he wasn’t aware of the assault. ““The driver was confronted by an unknown number of suspects driving a white Hyundai. Suspect(s) showed them what looked like a police appointment document. They (the victims) were threatened with a knife and the suspects demanded their personal belongings,” he said in a statement.

Mrs Mphoko and her entourage were then robbed of a ruby-and-diamond ring, bangles, $1 000 cash, a Cartier watch and Samsung Galaxy phone.

We are glad no one was harmed in the incident.
