Mehluli Sibanda powers into ITF juniors final

Zimbabwe’s rising tennis star Mehluli Sibanda stormed into the final of the ITF south/central juniors tourney after stunning tournament top seed -Alistair Gray on Friday.

Sibanda has had a tremendous path to the final and took his game to another level on Friday after registering a straight sets win over Alistair Gray of Great Britain. Sibanda who has dropped two sets on his way to the final on Friday upped his game, registering a 7-5, 6-3 win over tournament top seed Alastair Gray of Great Britain.

Sibanda began his run to the final by rallying to a three set victory over South African Thembo Makhanya in the second run. In the third round Sibanda met Belgian Louis Herman and posted another impressive 6-3, 6-0 victory.

Mehluli had a stern test in the quarter finals as he met Egyptian top seed Mohamed Abdel Aziz. Despite losing the first set3-6, Sibanda rallied from behind to claim the next two sets 7-6, 6-0. Sibanda’s biggest test then came in the semi-finals where he met the tournament top seed Alistair Gray of Great Britain.

In the semi’s Sibanda eased to a 7-5, 6-3 victory as he booked a berth in Saturday’s final where he will meet Luke Hammond of Great Britain on Saturday morning.
