Richard Kawondera strike sinks Wha Wha

A Richard Kawondera strike was enough to spur Dynamos Fc to a 1 nil victory over Wha Wha in a Chibuku super cup first round encounter at Rufaro stadium this afternoon.

Playing before a crowd of about 10 000 spectators Dynamos were under pressure to win especially having lost to Highlanders in the ZNA Commander charity shield final last weekend.

Wha Wha began the brighter of the two sides but spurned glorious opportunities early in the first half. Dembare also created chances in the first half with Sydney Linyama hitting the post before Rodrick Mutuma struck over the bar just before the break.

Dynamos came back the stronger of the two sides in the second half with Rodrick Mutuma proving difficult to contain on Dembare’s left flank. Richard Kawondera missed an opportunity to open the scoring in the 79th minute after shooting wide following some good build up play by Godknows Murwira down the right flank.

An impressive exchange of passes between Mutuma and Chinyama handed the glamour boys an opportunity of breaking the deadlock but Mutuma’s curled effort went inches wide.

A casual shot at goal by Kawondera denied the hosts an opportunity of a goal in the 86th minute of an encounter that looked headed for a draw. Kawondera however atoned for missed chances when he headed home what proved to be a crucial winner in the 88th minute. Victory steered Dembare into the last eight of the Chibuku super cup.

After the match Lloyd Mutasa was disappointed with his side’s failure to take their chances in the first half, ”It is unfortunate that we created chances in the first half but we failed to score. Well I mean that happens in the game of football”.

Dynamos assistant coach Gif Muzadzi was satisfied with the victory which steered the glamour boys into the quarter finals of the Chibuku super cup, “I thought we played well, we created a lot of chances and at least we managed to score right at the end”.
