“I don’t Know How The Jumpsuit Ended Up In My Bag” -Says Beauty Queen

Black Opal secong runner up Mercy Kamanura told the court she didn’t know how the jumpsuit ended up in her handbag and pleaded not guilty. The beauty queen was arrested early September for shoplifting a jumpsuit in Edgars.

Kamanura’s lawyer argued that the charge can be interpreted as attempted theft because she had not yet made her way out of the shop when the jumpsuit was retrieved from her bag.

However the statement she had earlier wrote revealed a different story. The 24 year old claims she had panicked when she wrote it.

“I was looking around Edgars shop and then asked to try a jumpsuit size 8 and 10. I then figured out the two were not my sizes but I took one jumpsuit and put it in my handbag and gave the other two to a shop assistant who was attending to me but I was caught at the entrance”, read the statement.

The Edgars security told the court Mercy had admitted to stealing the jumpsuit when she got caught. “After the jumpsuit was found in her handbag, I called her to another corner of the shop, I treated her as a VIP customer and she admitted to having stolen the jumpsuit, said the security guard.

The model is said to have become a suspect after the staff found empty hangers in the fitting rooms everytime she visited the store.

Prosecutor Progress Maringamoyo applied for a trial within a trial after Kamanura’s lawyer had questioned the authenticity of Edgars’ statement.
