Former Bafana Bafana star Linda Buthelezi has hailed Zimbabwe and Kaizer Chief midfielder Willard Katsande. Speaking to Soccerladuma in a one on one interview Buthelezi acknowledged Katsande’s value to the Kaizer Chiefs squad, “If you look at the Chiefs midfielder, they can’t deal with the defensive duties if he is not there. He is the backbone of that midfield. Every team needs a player like Katsande in their midfield” said Buthelezi.

Apart from his duties in protecting the Amakhosi back four Buthelezi also outlined Katsande’s significance in starting Kaizer Chiefs attacks,”You can see he is also involved in attack, which is good in modern football” said Buthelezi.

Katsande started off his stint in South Africa at Ajax Cape Town before moving to Kaizer Chiefs where he has made the defensive midfield position his own. When he first joined Kaizer Chiefs the Warriors captain had to fight for a jersey in the starting line-up illustrating character which Buthelezi has hailed.

Willard Katsande was among players that shone in Zimbabwe’s 1 all draw against Guinea in an Afcon qualifier at Rufaro stadium on Sunday. The former Gunners and Highway player had the crowd at Rufaro stadium on its feet after producing a sterling performance which places him among one of the best defensive midfielders Zimbabwe has ever produced.
