Zim relay team shines

Zimbabwe’s 4×100m relay team shone after clocking the second fastest time this year in Botswana. The team which comprises Tatenda Tsumba, Ngoni Makusha, Itayi Vambe and Dickson Kamungeremi powered to gold as they booked a place at the world championships which will be held in Japan.

The feats of the quartet have attracted huge interest with the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe bound to be excited by the performance of the nations group of top athletes. While it was celebration galore there is concern regarding the mobilisation of resources required to ensure the four sprinters travel to Japan for the worls championships.

Apart from recording the second fastest time this year and in the process qualifying for the world championships Tsumba, Makusha, Vambe and Kamungeremi broke the national record for an event which promises to be one in which Zimbabwe is set to dominate on the the continent in the future.

After exhibiting their potential Zimbabwe’s relay team will be hoping for full support in their endeavour to put Zimbabwe on the sporting map. The last time Zimbabwe were brought together by Athletics was at the Olympic games where Brian Dzingai narrowly missed out on a medal but left a lasting impression courtesy of top performances in Beijing.

If the Zimbabwe relay team is to continue to impress then qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 games is a big reality for the quartet that at the moment stands a chance of representing their country in Tokyo next year.
