2 Zimbabwean Writers Make Africa’s Most Outstanding Fiction Writers For 2015 List

Fiction writing is not dead in Zimbabwe. Two proudly Zimbabwean written fiction novels made it on the 2015 Africa’s Most Outstanding Fiction Books all thanks to NoViolet Bulawayo and Petina Gappah.

NoViolet Bulawayo’s We Need New Names is still making waves since its release in 2013. Not only did it get this nod amongst only seven other books, the book got shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize making her the first ever Black African woman to achieve the feat. It also won the Etisalat Prize for Literature, the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award, The Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award.

Petina Gappah’s The Book Of Memory also makes the list as one of only eight outstanding African fiction books of 2015.
