40 million Zifa tournament on the cards

Zimbabwe Football Association president Philip Chiyangwa says the local football governing body is in the process of coming up with a tournament which could generate up to 40 million Us dollars.

The tournament is expected to feature 4 African teams as well as 4 Asian sides which will compete in an event which will seek to honour the legacy of President Robert Mugabe.

Chiyangwa made Zifa’s plan known at a ceremony held for the warriors before departing for Rwanda on Friday evening. The Zifa leaders said the Association is already in engagements with a sports marketing firm that will be involved in the promotion of the 8 nation tournament.

The Zifa president also refused to put limits to the tournaments stature, as he suggested the ability to attract 16 teams could see Zifa making as much as 80 million Us dollars.
