Malaika Mushandu Crowned Top World Supermodel
Congrats are in order for the former Miss Zimbabwe Malaika Mushandu was was crowned the top World Supermodel on Saturday in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She also scooped another crown for the best dressed supermodel.
Malaika was humbled by her victory and dedicated her crowns to those who have stood by her in her modelling career. “I am so humbled by winning these titles, I had to stop myself shedding tears on stage, but I am grateful for the support and this award is dedicated to everyone who has stood by me or encouraged me from the time I was young up to now”.
Malaika had taken a four-year break from modelling while focusing on her film studies, the pageant organizers were still drafting her contract following the victory.
“My contract is still being drafted at the moment so I will know what the full package is later, but it all involves a modelling contract, so bit by bit my career is starting to pick up again ”, she said.
The former Miss Zimbabwe said her dream was to become Miss Universe and walking on the ramp at the World Super Model pageant in its ninth edition can help open the doors for her.
Mushandu’s spokesperson, Rumbidzai Matinanga, applauded the model for her efforts at the pageant that drew 40 models from across the world. “It is every contestant’s desire to come up top at any pageant she would have participated in and for Malaika to land these two crowns is something special for both her career and the nation”.
She also proved that she was a force to reckon with after finishing ninth at the 2011 Miss World Pageant, becoming the second person to raise the Zimbabwean flag that high at the prestigious pageant.
Malaika was named as one of Zimbabwe’s finest top 40 hot, brainy and influential women in 2013.
