China Most Racist Place On Earth? Check Out 5 Of The Most Racist Ads Ever

Everyone’s in an uproar over this racist Chinese advert, but other advertising industries around the world are no better.

The commercial shows a young woman placing a detergent tab in a black man’s mouth and stuffing him into a washing machine. After going through a wash cycle, the black man emerges “cleaner” and without paint streaks – as an Asian man. The woman looks visibly pleased as a voice chimes: “Change, it all starts from Qiaobi laundry detergent pod.”

Facebook users have voiced their disgust and concern widely but the ad itself has appeared on television and has been shown at cinemas in China. At that time it didn’t cause much of murmur until a US expat, Christopher Powell, shared it on his personal Facebook page, saying he was appalled.

Western media seems intent on implying this Chinese ad is the “most racist” advertisement they’ve ever encountered. However, few are speaking about where the template of equating dark skin with uncleanliness comes from: American and British advertising from as early as the 19th century
