Warriors miss out on friendly encounter opportunity

Zimbabwe’s national soccer team watched from the sidelines as other nations from the African continent made use of the Fifa calendar by organising friendly encounters. Countries such as South Africa, Somalia, Ethiopia, The DRC and Nigeria all capitalised on an opportunity to assess their squads.

The Warriors lie second in their Afcon group making the current campaign one in which Zimbabwe have a huge opportunity of returning to an event they were last part of in 2006. Despite Callisto Pasuwa having an opportunity to assess his team ahead of two back to back encounters against Swaziland next year, Zimbabwe’s senior side had to watch from the sidelines as other nations made use of the opportunity.

Some may argue Zifa’s financial standing would have made it difficult for Zimbabwe but organisation and forward planning would surely have made it possible for our beloved Warriors to assemble  and perhaps host a team from the region.
