Zimbabwean Health Sector Receives $82m Grant

The Zimbabwean health sector received an $82 million grant from the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).  This fund is meant to help improve programmes on sexual and reproductive health and nutrition for women and children. Most of the grant is expected to finance health interventions implemented under the health development fund. The remaining $2.2 million will be channeled towards strengthening the capacity to prevent, detect and respond to disease outbreaks.

According to DFID head of mission in Zimbabwe, Annabel Gerry, previous interventions have allowed the availability of basic medicines in rural health centers to improve.

The government commended the development partners for the support as this will improve access and quality of health in Zimbabwe.

The UK programme to support a resilient health system builds on the progress Zimbabwe has made in reducing maternal and child mortality, expanding full immunisation coverage, increasing the proportion of births attended by skilled health personnel and increasing access to sexual reproductive health services for women and girls.
