Golden Eagles closes in on Herentals

Golden Eagles continued with their dominance in the Northern Region Division 1 League after registering their second successive win in two weeks.

Golden Eagles hammered Golden Valley 4-1 in a pulsating clash at Chakari Stadium on Saturday to move to within one point of log leaders Herentals who are on 17.

Aaron Zeka put the visitors in front with a well taken freekick from 25 yards giving Golden Valley goalkeeper Nelson Simbanegavi no chance.

With seconds left before the halftime whistle left back Lindell Mupfumisi doubled the lead for the visitors who produced a counter attacking masterclass in an encounter which went to the breather with Golden eagles 2-0 to the good.

In the second stanza, Golden Valley got a lifeline in the 55th minute when Mtaonga tapped in from close range to pull one back for the hosts.

The visitors would then break the hosts’ momentum 13 minutes later when second half substitute Claude Mapoka showed class and composure with a cheeky chip steering Golden Eagles into a 3-1 lead.

Second half substitute Albert Nyamutsaka would then kill the game off as a contest as he made it 4 for the Joel Lupahla coached outfit.
