Katsande: Chiefs Learnt A Lesson The Hard Way

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Willard Katsande, reckons that the Amakhosi have learnt their lesson from the Soweto Derby loss and extended his thanks to the fans for rallying behind the team when the chips are down.

Chiefs suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of fellow Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, in the derby on Saturday.

They were, however, able to bounce back and grab an important 3-1 win in the league against Golden Arrows in midweek ahead of the next Soweto Derby in the TKO semi-final this coming Saturday.

King Salt or Salt & Vinegar as the hard-tackling midfield enforcer is known to local football followers, has indicated that the Amakhosi are looking to make amends for their previous Derby loss and grab a spot in the final.

“It’s all about going to the next round and that’s the final. We learnt a lesson the hard way,” Katsande told Chiefs’ official website.

“That (the Arrows win) was a big confidence booster. We played well and we could even have converted more chances.

“The true fans always come to the stadium, also when the chips are a bit down. We saw it on Tuesday with the Arrows game. They were rallying behind us, which was marvellous to see. They were a big help.

“It feels special to captain Kaizer Chiefs, the biggest brand in African soccer. I got full support as well from ‘Shabba’ (Siphiwe Tshabalala), who is the real captain but didn’t feature in Tuesday’s match.”
