The 2017 edition of the Harare International Festival of the Arts will run from May 2 to 7. The theme is ‘Staging an Intervention’. According to HIFA executive director Maria Wilson, an intervention is being staged in the midst of confusing times not only in our country but around the world.

Music superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi will mark the official opening of the festival. The legend alongside South African Steve Dyer will perform at the show called ‘Let Our Song Be Sung’. Other acts will include Amanda a la Banda from Italy and Grammy-nominated Afro roots star-cum humanitarian activist Rocky Dawuni from Ghana.

Maria also highlighted that they had a positive responses in terms of applications. This year’s festival will celebrate positivity and will have a mix of style and genres in the various disciplines. Children will enjoy the urban jungle themed youth zone.

Festival goers can expect performances from acts from Kenya, United Kingdom, Austria and America.

The Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) is a 6-day annual festival that showcases the very best of Zimbabwean, regional and international arts and culture. The programme includes theatre, dance, music, circus, street performance, spoken word, craft and visual arts. HIFA is considered to be among the top festivals in Africa and the world.

HIFA took a break last year and instead had a monthly programme of a variety of shows.
