Many of the kids come from a difficult home life, so, students are encouraged to work as hard as they can while at school. Homework does not go home with the children because most often "we know it is not going to get done," said Madison Tracy, the schools principal. The Jubilee Schools now operate on a $30 million endowment, serving more than 1,400 mostly non-Catholic and poor students at eight schools (fundraising allowed the addition of two more). Unlike most private, faith- based schools, these schools would accept any students, regardless of test scores, previous academic or behavior records, or a family's ability to pay. Belvin Chibi reportedly missed both the English Papers and Commerce (Paper 2) after Mrs Nyasha Rubende who also happens to be the Headmaster’s wife barred him from the exam room for not having proper school shoes.

“I do not have school shoes and so I borrowed a pair of shoes from a well-wisher. It was not a school shoe. As I entered the examination room, Mrs Rubende barred me. I pleaded with her but she would not listen. I was left with no option but to go back home. I failed to write again today”, he told Herald.

Catholic Bishops Conference of Zimbabwe spokesperson, Father Fredrick Chiromba expressed his shock saying, “This is a shocking incident especially considering the fact that most children in rural areas cannot afford to buy shoes and go to school barefooted.”

“There is also no regulation that students have to wear shoes. In rural areas the majority do not have shoes. I will need to find out what really happened in this case”, said Bishop Chiromba.

The school Headmaster has since offered to pay for Belvin’s exam fee for June 2016.
