Emtee And Mpho Poops to Headline Shoko 2017

The build-up towards one of Africa’s biggest urban festivals is near. After unveiling the poster and theme for this year’s edition, Shoko Festival has announced the main acts. Headlining Shoko are multi-award winning hip-hop artist Emtee and top South African comedian Mpho Poops.

The 7th edition of Shoko Festival running from the 29th to the 1st of October. 

The Roll Up hitmaker will be joined by local acts including hip-hop acts Takura, Simba Tagz, ExQ, Takura and Calvin. Zimdancehall chanter Souljah Love makes his Shoko Festival debut during this edition.

Enter is expected to perform on the 29th of September. Mpho Popps will headline the comedy night at Shoko. Popps is a well-traveled act having also had stage time at the legendary Laugh Factory.

Other international acts that will hit the Shoko stage are UK Artist DJ Yoda, Norwegians Taro Cooper and Julian Sommerfeldt. The Norway acts are coming courtesy of the partnership between Shoko Festival and the Oslo Afro Arts Festival.

During the Shoko Festival press conference at Moto Republik, it was noted that there was a lack of female acts on the lineup.

He was announced alongside a bevy of local acts who are killing it at the moment. The local contingent is led by top ZimDancehall chanter Souljah Love who is currently riding the wave with a hit track Zvinhu. Also on the lineup is Takura, Simba Tagz, ExQ, Takura and Calvin. The comedy night will be headlined by Mpho Popps a top South African comic act. Popps has shared the stage with Trevor Noah and Marc Littering.He has also toured internationally having performed at the legendary Laugh Factory.

Magamba Network head Samm ‘Comrade Fatso’ Monro highlighted that there will be more names released that include female acts as time goes on.

Running under the theme ‘Youtopia’, this year’s edition is expected to be bigger with more activities. Apart from the festival, there will be the Hub UnConference and the first ever Zim Hip-Hop Summit.

The Hub UnConference has raised this year’s prize money to $4 000 for each winner.

The festival returns after two years in a row to the Zimbabwe Museum of Human Sciences and the HubUnconference will be held in the Harare City Library. Peace in the Hood Concert will return once again to Chitungwiza.

Shoko Festival has partnered with the Embassy of Sweden while sponsors include Zambezi Magic, DStv and accommodation will be provided by Rainbow Towers hotel.
