Zimbabweans Blast Anne Nhira For Zodwa Wabantu Ban

Zimbabweans on social media are blasting actress Anne Nhira after it was announced that South African socialite Zodwa Wabantu has been banned from taking part in the Harare International Carnival. The announcement was made by acting Minister of tourism and hospitality Patrick Zhuwao, who responded to Anne’s lash out on her Facebook page.

Anne questioned why a South African ‘socialite’ was being used to perform while the country has a high unemployment rate. In response Zimbabwean government officials barred the Durbanite from her scheduled performance because she insists she must do so with no underpants.

In a letter by acting Minister Zhuwao, it read:

I acknowledge your complaining on the above matter (complaint on the appearance of Zodwa waBantu at Harare International Carnival)

Government position is that the artist concerned may not perform at the Harare International Carnival.I this regard relevant authorities have been notified.

Ironically Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke had apologised to Zodwa Wabantu for trying to force her to wear undergarments when she performs at the Harare International Carnival. Kaseke had said, “I hope she will have her panties. If she cannot perform in panties then we don’t want her because chiefs (traditional leaders) will not like it.”

Although there have been publications that have shared Zodwa’s response to the ban, it’s Zimbabweans responses that have been trending. Both the public and Zimbabwean celebrities have shared their thoughts about the ban. Check out some of the responses below:
