Zesco ends marriage with Rusike

By Geronimo News

Defending champions Zesco United have ended their two-year marriage with attacking midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike.

The Zimbabwean whose contract with the club expired on the 31st of last month joined the nine times Zambian Super League champions from rivals Zanaco in January 2020.

Rusike who has grown his profile in Zambia was instrumental in Zega Mambo’s fold after inspiring the club to their ninth Premier League title as well as the Charity Shield success in the 2020/21 season.

Upon his departure, club Chief Executive Officer Richard Kabwe Mulenga paid tribute to the attacking midfielder for his immense contribution towards the team’s success stories over the past two years.

“I would like to thank Rusike for his contribution to the club’s success. He contributed greatly to our league title success last season. We wish him the best of luck in his next chapter in the game,” Mulenga said.

The 30-year-old winger moved to Zambia in 2017 after helping Caps United to their fifth Premier League title in 2016 and went on to establish himself as one of the top players in the Zambian topflight after two successful seasons at Zanaco where he was the club’s captain.

In 2018, Rusike was voted amongst the top eleven players of the year in the Super League by the Zambian football fans after a fine campaign in which he had the highest number of assists while narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot award by only two goals.

Owing to such brilliant performances, the former Caps United man then earned himself a recall to the Warriors squad where he participated at the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers under the then national team coach Zdravko Logarušic.

It is, however, not yet known where the attacking midfielder’s next destination would be.
