Chimwemwe ready for 2021/22 season

Zimbabwe international and Nkana FC defender Gilroy Chimwemwe says he is looking forward to a fruitful 2021/22 season as the team prepares to start its pre-season training next week.

The former Harare City and Twalumba United player says they will be eyeing a top four finish this campaign as the club seeks to rub shoulders with the big boys of African football.

“This season we do not want to repeat what we did last season. We want to train hard prepare ourselves for the tough league and fight for a top four finish,” he said.

Chimwemwe also highlighted that fatigue played a crucial role in their downfall season hence the need to work on endurance and mental strength.

“There were too many games for us and also the CAF games. We were involved with a lot of travelling and mentally we were strong enough to contain the pressure which comes with interclub competitions and trying to balance with league games. So, I guess we learnt our lesson and we now know we have to work on our endurance and mental strength to overcome the pressures,” noted the defender.

Chimwemwe joined Nkana in February 2020 from another Zambian outfit Buildcon alongside his fellow countryman Kelvin Moyo and helped the team survive relegation after finishing 13th on the 18-team table.
