Kay Gee 40 Interview

What type of music do you make?

I make hip-hop and afro soul!

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

ha ha I draw my inspiration from God. My Hip-hop is largely influenced by where I come from. When you listen to my music you will notice that all the ad-libs ,yodeling and backings come from Afro soul!

What was Kay-Gee 40 up to in 2014?

I have been making debut my album which is called Seven(Full Circle) which is 80% done. I have 2 single that have been doing the rounds on local FM stations which are Apa Tione(Produced by Tash Mwana Wamai) and Shot To The Heart (Produced By Spirit Fingers). I have been doing gigs around the country as well , I performed in Mutare, Harare, Gweru and Vumba.

Who can we expect to find on the production of Seven?

Ha ha I was really trying to keep that on the hush for now but umm I mainly worked with Tash Mwana Wamai, Anonzi Xander, C Bleech, Mr Noxa, Spirit Fingers to mention a few

So that means your album is coming out next year?

Most definitely coming out next year after I release my next singles. This album is a body of work I can’t wait for my fans to hear because I have put so much time to making it so you better be ready lol.

How did you get into music?

Growing up in Mutare I always felt like people didn’t understand me when I tried explaining myself, so I got into poetry for that reason. I realised that as a poet I wasn’t going to have the type of reach I wanted so I went to study music at Mutare Polytechnic.I shifted to making music, but never let go of my inner poet so I use it in my RAP(Rhythm And Poetry).

Since gaining recognition what has changed in your life?

To be honest my perception has really shifted. I have been making for over 10 years and before people started appreciating my work I used to feel like I was just a musician but now people actually see me as a musician plus a role model.

Whats the craziest thing a fan has ever done or said to you?

Hahaha this one kid from Mutare walked up to me and said, “When I grow up I want to talk like you, dress like you, walk like you so can you be my mentor”!

Any words of Wisdom to the youth of Zimbabwe?

It’s not about where you come from it’s about where you want to go. Don’t allow society to bring you down, just believe in yourself and God
