Critical Shortages of Blood Type O

The National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has raised a red flag over a critical shortage of stocks for blood group O. Blood type Of is the most common blood type in Zimbabwe.

It’s reported that there’s less than a day’s supply at any given time. According to National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) chief executive officer Lucy Marowa,

“Around 50% of the population is blood type O. So this naturally puts a strain on supplies. The situation is quite critical.”

She added that hospitals place 100% orders for blood group O only. This further causes the depletion in the already limited stocks. There is an appeal to blood group O donors, to donate so that NBSZ replenishes the stocks.
