Zimbabweans Who Made Us Proud In 2017

Zimbabweans are the most resilient people in the world. The going may get tough but they get going through it all. In the last few years of the this decade, we have seen the rise of Zimbabweans. Many have been representing the country in different areas. In entertainment it seems that Zimbabweans are taking over. With that said check out Zimbabweans who waved the flag high in 2017.

Danai Gurira

Danai Gurira might be famous for her role as Michonne in The Walking Dead but she is bad ass in other ways. Danai made history after her play Eclipse was the first all black, all female cast to debut on Broadway. The cast and crew were nominated and awarded at the Tony Awards. She also played the role of the late legend, Afeni Shakur, in the Tupac biopic ‘All Eyez on Me’. She is part of an all star cast for the highly anticipated Black Panther movie.

Jah Prayzah

Firstly the uniformed forces ambassador should be honoured with a badge of honour. With that said, Jah Prayzah kept winning in 2017. He dominated the NAMAS as well as being nominated for the SAMAs. He earned yet another million views for his collaboration with Yemi Alade, ‘Nziyo Yerudo’. He also scored collaborations with Mafikizolo and Davido.

Pip Kembo

The Grammy nominated US based producer, Pip Kembo had great global hits in 2017. He produced Chris Brown’s ‘Questions’, Pitbull’s ‘Por Favor’ featuring Fifth Harmony and J Balvin’s ‘Hey Ma’. He was nominated for the 2017 Latin Grammy Awards and Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards for J Balvin’s ‘Hey Ma’.

Sibo Mlambo

US based actress, model and dancer Sibo Mlambo got big breaks in 2017. She joined MTV’s Teen Wolf. She also featured in a movie starring Chadwick Bosman in Message from the King.

Tino Chinyani

The gorgeous former Mr Monash found himself strutting his stuff at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. He also signed deals that included with Polonium and Axe. He made his TV debut as Denis Zimba’s co-presenter on Channel O’s Top 5 Drive.

Rue

Newcomer Ruvimbo Karimazondo a.k.a Rue was nominated for an All Africa Music Awards.

Tamy Moyo

The 18th Roller coaster songstress gave Zimbabweans one of the biggest bangers. Teaming up with Takura and Dobba Don, the trio released Beautiful (Ndozvandiri). She made history as being part of an all female line up alongside British Grammy Awards winner, Joss Stone. She is currently representing Zimbabwe at the Mother of Africa tour in Europe.

T Collar

Tinashe Sibanda a.k.a T Collar received his first Grammy nomination for Best Soundtrack. He produced the track Know Better for the 2016 movie ‘Suicide Squad’.

Ammara Brown

Queen Mukoko owned her throne in 2017. She won several awards including the NAMAS, Zimbabwe International Film Festival Awards and Zimbabwe Models Awards. She was a nominee for the KORA Top 20.
