UN Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalists Fellowship Programme 2017

The annual Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalists Fellowship Programme is a unique opportunity for journalists from developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The Programme is held for four weeksat the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

The Programme was mandated in December 1980 by UN General Assembly Resolution 35/201 (paragraph III-9) and renamed in September 2003 “Reham Al Farra Memorial Journalists Fellowship Programme”. More than 550 journalists and broadcasters from 166 countries have taken part in the Programme.
The Programme is sponsored annually since 1981 by the United Nations Department of Public Information as a fellowship programme for junior and mid-level broadcasters and journalists from developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The Reham al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship is open to junior and mid-level media professionals from countries with developing economies or economies in transition.
  • To meet the eligibility requirements, candidates must:
  • be between 22 and 35 years old
  • be a fulltime working journalist
  • be proficient in English
  • possess a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the start of the Programme (programme begins September 2017)

Benefits:

The fellowship covers round trip airfare from your country of residence to New York and provides a daily subsistence allowance (approximately $385/day) that can be used for accommodation and meals.

Where will I stay in New York?

Fellows are responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements in New York. The programme provides a daily subsistence allowance ($385/day) which should be adequate to cover standard hotel rates and food in New York.
