Buffalo Souljah calls on African nations to boycott the Lion King. Pushes for national unity.

Zimbabwean dancehall artist Buffalo Souljah who is based in South Africa has just spoken out against the much talked about animated movie, “The Lion King”. He said that it was disturbing that Beyonce, who features in the movie and has done the soundtracks for it, selectively hand picked some artists from Nigeria and South Africa. She had excluded artits from Zimbabwe and other African countries.

Buffalo said that it is high time that people stand up for themselves and speak up against such discrimination. He said there is a lot of talent in countries such as Zimbawe, Malawi,Tanzania and Kenya. He said people in these countries must boycott the movie. Buffalo also asserted that Zimbabwe has been overshadowed by South Africa for a long time and it was time that the world got to know more about the country.

Buffalo said that people must take leaf from former president Robert Mugabe who never accepted standards set by the Western countries. He Sadi people should not merely accept to be sidelined but must infact speak out. Buffalo’s message comes amidst his earlier Revelations that Zimbabwean artists must unite.

Buffalo clearly got the attention of many people who agreed with him that some African countries were being downtrodden in terms of talent identification. Buffalo said that Africa involved countries from Sadc, West Africa and East Africa as well. With regards to the selection of artists on the Lion King album he said,” This is clear the African countries who are not on the this compilation are not your target market”. The artists featured on Beyonce’s Lion King soundtrack are mainly from South Africa and Nigeria. These include Busiswa, Burna boy, Mr Eazi, Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage. Not a single Zimbabwean artist was selected.

Buffalo’s sentiments were re affirmed by most people who said that Zimbabwe also has marketable singers like Jah Prayzah, Ammara Brown and Buffalo himself. The Lion King starts showing in Zim at Ster Kinekor cinemas today.
