Gemma Griffiths captures attention of Zim music fans

Zimbabwean acoustic soul singer Gemma Griffiths has captured the imagination of Zimbabwean music lovers after featuring in the much awaited Winky D video titled Mugarden which was released on valentines day.

Griffiths, a Zimbabwean based in Cape Town left music fans in awe given the fluency she exhibits in Shona. Her vocals impress many given the numerous comments that were sparked by the new release that attracted 20,000 views in just 3 hours.

Though based in Cape Town Griffiths frequents Zimbabwe, coming back home at least once a month. According to Griffiths Cape Town is her creative space but enjoys returning home.  Following her star appearance in the track Mugarden many are optimistic Gemma Griffiths has a bright future in the Zimbabwean music industry.

Gemma first came to be known by Zimbabwean artists following the release of a remix to the track Baba musarova bigiman, a track which many believe impressed Winky D resulting in the two artists collaborating in Mugarden.

Given her Zimbabwean roots Griffiths is hopeful of not only penetrating Zimbabwe’s market but yearns to continue singing in Shona and yet being able to go global. Griffiths biggest goal is doing something that is different and eventually being well known. Griffiths believes that by doing something that is organic she will be noticed one way or the other. 

Griffiths has a jazz and classical background that which when combined becomes acoustic soul. Griffiths plays the piano, guitar and trumpet player as well. Gemma has performed at various platforms and given her delivery the Zimbabwean artist will be hoping to continue making an impact on the music scene.
