Peter Ndlovu feats remembered

Monday was a special day in the life of Zimbabwe legendary footballer Peter Ndlovu who celebrated his 46th birthday. Social media was awash with congratulatory messages as fans reflected on Peter Ndlovu’s career which began in the dusty streets of Bulawayo before taking him to England and then South Africa.

The 46 year old will be best remembered for his feats at Coventry City after becoming the first African footballer to ply his trade in the English league. This was after he had been spotted by Coventry City while playing for Highlanders.

At Coventry Peter Ndlovu was Liverpool’s first opposing player to score a hatrick earning the recognition of statisticians in the English league.

For the Zimbabwe national team Peter Ndlovu was often the stand out performer and was the first Warriors captain to guide Zimbabwe to Afcon qualification at the 2004 nations cup hosted by Tunisia.

To this day Ndlovu is remembered for his feats in England and for the Warriors. At present Peter Ndlovu is the Mamelodi Sundowns team manager. Ndlovu is arguably Zimbabwe’s greatest footballer given his feats both at home and in England. Despite turning out for Coventry Peter Ndlovu also had stints with Sheffield Wednesday as well as Huddersfield Town.

Ndlovu would then wind down his career at Mamelodi Sundowns where he was the highest paid player after migrating from England. Peter Ndlovu is a Coca-cola product having turned out for Mzilikazi at the inaugaral edition held in Bulawayo. Astonishing skill coupled with pace and a natural eye for goal made Peter Ndlovu a top player that was often a nightmare for opposing defenders.
