HIFA Reignites the Magic

Zimbabwe’s biggest arts festival HIFA came to life last night as it showcased Africa’s biggest names in the arts.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The six-day event came to life yesterday inspire of the economic challenges that it has faced. With the biggest names in arts and entertainment rallying together in celebration of the theme ‘Staging an Intervention’.

With venues including the ZOL Main Stage, Zimgold Green, Global Stage at Theatre in the Park, BAT Global Stage, The Standard Theatre, National Gallery of Zimbabwe, OK Zimbabwe First Street and Reps Theatre.

The highlight of the first day was the opening show featuring Oliver Mtukudzi. Themed ‘Let Our Song Be Sung’ the legend reunited with Mahube members after eight years of not performing together. Tuku was joined by Steve Dyer, Bokani Dyer, Mbuso Khoza, Sam Mataure and mbira Princess Hope Masike.

Dressed in white clothes with colourful African prints the performers reminded attendees of the magic brought by the Harare International Festival of the Arts. Hope Masike energetically danced across the stage while Tuku brought on his stage style synonymous with him. At the end of the performance all the artists held hands as a sign of peace, unity and love.

The show was then followed by fireworks to mark the beginning of the the festival.

Tuku will be on stage again with dancehall king Winky D on Friday on the ZOL Main stage. Other platforms to look forward to is the Pariah Stand which has been receiving rave reviews from the likes of KVG and Lochnation.
