Thomas Mapfumo bids farewell

Music lovers will on Friday evening be in for a treat as Zimbabwe bids farewell to Thomas Mapfumo who will be returning to the United States. Dubbed the Dr Mapfumo farewell party, music followers will have an opportunity of seeing a Zimbabwean legend. Sulumani Chimbetu is also set to take to the stage and perform at an event that will be held at Club Las Vegas. Thomas Mapfumo has in recent weeks made the headlines for the wrong reasons with the music great being evicted from a Glen Lorne house after failing to pay rentals. This was after the US-based Zimbabwean musician Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo accrued a debt of over US$10 000 due to poor attendances at his ‘Peace Tour Shows’. Mapfumo also made the headlines for insinuating that only him and Oliver Mutukudzi had worldwide recognition as other local artists are only known locally and in the united Kingdom where a number of Zimbabweans are based. Mukanya returned to Zimbabwe in December to perform a series of shows but due to the poor attendances, some sponsors pulled out. Mukanya is now set to return to the United States but before bidding farewell the chimurenga music superstar will perform on Friday before leaving the country. Apart from Mapfumo’s farewell party other shows are lined up for the weekend with Mutapa hall in Gweru set to be a hive of activity on Saturday. Stunner, Guspy warrior and Silent killer popularly known for his track Ngirozi yehondo are among a list of artists that will entertain fans in the midlands.
