Warriors delight fans

The Zimbabwe national soccer team on Sunday put smiles on the faces of thousands of Zimbabwean supporters after romping to a 2 nil victory over Congo Brazzaville in a do or die encounter at the national sports stadium.

The warriors got their goals courtesy of Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat. Billiat was the one that opened the scoring courtesy of an exquisite free kick which lifted fans from their seats in the 23rd minute.

After having to endure a torrid week in which he had to overcome a groin strain Knowledge Musona showed just why Sunday Chidzambwa was eager to have him in the starting 11 after unleashing a scorcher which handed Zimbabwe a 2 nil lead.

While the warriors closed shop thereafter Sunday emerged as a day to remember for local fans who thronged the national sports stadium in their thousands. After Sunday’s win the warriors will now be waiting for the Afcon draw which is set to be held next month.

It is the 4th time Zimbabwe have qualified for the Africa cup of nations with Charles Mhlauri, and Callisto Pasuwa other coaches to have guided Zimbabwe to Afcon qualifiaction. The 2019 edition is the second Afcon qualification for Sunday Chidzambwa who first led Zimbabwe to the Afcon finals in 2004.
