Zim celebs bear brunt of cyber bullying

The internet is indeed a great tool for communication and research and has simplified the lives of many. Social media handles such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are platforms whereby people from all over the world converse and build relationships.

It is however prudent to note that social media is often used as a vehicle of abuse and the following celebrities have had to bear the brunt of negative comments and malicious sentiments by social media users.

  1. Olinda Chapel
Olinda has been criticized a lot on the net. After her fallout with former husband Stunner, she was a topical issue on social media. She has been criticized for her body, her marriage and generally her lifestyle. A few weeks ago some social media users made very nasty comments about her marriage on the anniversary of her marriage to Tytan. However Olinda is renowned for standing up for herself and not letting other people’s negative thoughts ruin her life. She has been brave enough to soldier on with her life, building a successful brand along the way, in the face of such adversity.
  2. Vimbai Zimuto
The singer was thrust into the world of hate comments after posting a string of naked photos of herself. This enraged the public and people were quick to ascertain that she was craving public attention in a not so modest way. Vimbai defended herself and insisted that she was simply going back to her roots and emulating her ancestors who never had to worry about wearing clothes. The rude comments did nothing to stop Vimbai who continued to post more nudes.
  3. Fungisai Zvakavapano
Fungisai was the nation’s darling of gospel until her transition to infuse Zim dancehall into her music. She received a lot of backlash with most people saying that she had lost focus and was trying to venture into something that was meant for young uncultured people. Whilst her collaboration with Killer T was clearly exceptionally good, her fans seemed not to forgive her for deviating from her old way of singing. Even her dressing came under public scrutiny. Fungisai however continued to drop more hits under the production of Oskid and has not looked back since.
  4. Enzo ishall
Zimdancehall chanter Enzo ishall was attacked relentlessly following the release of his video to the song 50, Magate. Several Civic groups and churches lambasted the singer for incoporating raunchy and suggestive dances in his video. He was even beaten up by his wife for using provacative dancing ladies in the video. The negativity has not affected Enzo as he continues to soar to great heights. He was recently on a tour in Australia.
  5. Madam Boss
The comedian is no stranger to criticism on social media. After successfully opening her own shop on Harare the singer was the subject of bullying with some people likening the shop to a walk in closet. She was also blasted last year for wearing a revealing jumpsuit to which she later on apologized. True to her trade, madam boss simply takes the comments in a light hearted manner and even jokes about the malicious comments.
