Brief description:

The World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program awards fellowships of up to $25,000 annually for developing country PhD candidates to conduct innovative, development-related, doctoral research under the supervision of a research advisor at a host institution abroad through a residency period of 6 to 10 months.

Host Institution(s):

The fellowship can take place at any host institution in the world as long as the following conditions are met: (i) the host institution is in a World Bank member country. (ii) the host institution is outside the developing country where you have citizenship. (iii) if you currently reside in a country outside the developing country where you have citizenship, that country must be a developing nation.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

The maximum amount of the grant is US$25,000 and covers the costs related to the research program.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a fellowship award:

• You are a national of a Bank member country eligible to receive World Bank financing

• You are not a national of any country not eligible to receive World Bank financing (for example, you cannot be a dual citizen of a country that cannot receive World Bank financing)

• You are currently enrolled in a PhD program in a World Bank member country eligible to receive World Bank financing

• While enrolled in the PhD program, you have resided in a World Bank member country eligible to receive World Bank financing

• You will have completed all coursework and exams required by your PhD program at the time of application deadline.

• You are 35 years or younger as of 2 February 2016.

• You are not an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and/or staff of all types of appointments of the World Bank Group (The World Bank, International Development Association, International Finance Corporation, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and International Center for Settlements of Investment Disputes). Nor are you a close relative of the aforementioned by blood or adoption with the term “close relative” defined as: Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew

• You have not previously been the recipient of the World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program.

• You are accepted as a visiting scholar for a period of six to ten months by a university or research center in a World Bank member country other than your country of citizenship and, if applicable, other than a developing country in which you currently reside.

• Your research proposal for RSMFP funding is endorsed by your PhD thesis supervisor and your host institution research advisor.

• You can begin your fellowship between July and December, 2016

• You are able to complete your proposed fellowship research in 6 to 10 months.
