Sepp Blatter is not about to end his seventeen year reign as the FIFA President. The 79 year old Siss has come out to say he did not resign as FIFA President.
While addressing a party at a FIFA museum, Blatter said he put himself and his office in the hands of the FIFA congress. He is said to be considering the re-election as President.
During the week he was elected, corruption investigations hit FIFA, Blatter included. The fifth time serving FIFA President who is under investigation in the United States says he has a mandate from the membership of FIFA but does not feel that he has a mandate from the entire world of football.
“Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as Fifa president until that election”, he said.
Blatter will not attend the Women’s World Cup in Canada because of the twin investigations into FIFA by American and Swiss authorities.
FIFA spokesperson said: “In terms of the FIFA President and the FIFA secretary general, their future travel plans will be confirmed in due course.”
