The fourth edition of the awards will be held at the Charles Austin Theatre. Brown will receive posthumously a Lifetime Achievement Award which will also be his first.

With an illustrious career which spans almost three decades, Andy Brown never won an award during his lifetime. According to organisers of the awards, the late songwriter and guitarist had not been accorded the honour befitting his contribution to the local music industry.

Earlier this year the legend’s daughter, Ammara Brown dedicated her NAMA award to her late father saying despite his immense talent, he never won an award during his career.

Andy’s career included his days as part of the group Ilanga which also included the late Don Gumbo, Busi Ncube, Chinx Chingaira and Adam Chisvo. He later went solo and with his band The Storm had hits such as Tichangoshaina, Mapurisa,  Ndoita Zindoga Ini and Mawere Kongonya.

Sadly he succumbed to pneumonia on March 16, 2012 aged 50 however his children are continuing his legacy of music.

According to reports, Ammara’s manager, Tsungi Zvobgo shared that Chengeto Brown would likely collect the award on the night as her sister was booked for a show elsewhere.

This award has been a long time coming for the musician who contributed immensely to Zimbabwean music. It is with hope that this will be the first of many awards that will recognise the works of music icon.
