Two men who fled from quarantine centre infect 7 minors with covid 19

In an incident that has left many people heartbroken and fuming with anger, two people who escaped from a quarantine centre in Beitbridge have infected eight out of eighteen of their family members.This was revealed by Secretary for Information Ndabaningi “Nick” Mangwana who also revealed that the seven family members are children with the oldest being fifteen years old.

Mangwana said the two escaped and went home to Madaulo Village in Ward 1. He said:Wiseman Ngwenya and Morgan Ngwenya absconded from Beitbridge Qurantine Centre and went home to Madaulo Village in Ward 1. They did not even give heed to warnings of self isolating when they got home. Yesterday tests were done on their family members. 7 out 18 family members tested positive. These are children below 10 years save for one who is 15 years.The 7 children are showing #Covid19Zim symptoms. Most people have expressed anger and outrage at the conduct of the two for exposi g such young kids to the virus. A lot of returnees have been fleeing quarantine centres thereby resulting in an increase in the number of local ttansmissions. There has been a recent upsurge in local transmissions in Zimbabwe.

Presently, the country is under lockdown level 2.The two were part of 17 people who escaped from isolation at the National Social Security Authority (Nssa) hotel. People have also called on government to ensure proper facilities are out in place at quarantine centres with proper ablution facilities and adequate food being provided. They claim appalling living conditions might be acting as an incentive for people to flee. Zimbabwe has seen a spike in the number of covid 19 cases over the past weeks with over 250 new cases recorded yesterday alone. This has led to a review of lockdown restrictions including a deferment of schools opening.
