All Set For My Street My Run Way By Michael “Mcpotar” Mupotaringa

In recent years, Zimbabwe has come to appreciate her own stylists and designers. So people are having a transition from idolizing western made fashion trends to promoting their own. The many fashion events and showcases that have risen are instilling a sense of pride in our Fashion industry. This November we have “The Street My Runway” fashion show brought by Encore Productions.

They have allowed designers an opportunity to showcase their unique talents on the day. According to Donovan Faranando, a co-organizer of the event, “The designers are expected to bring us into their world. Often designers get lost in trends and forget to express themselves as they should.”

Another organizer of the event, Nobuhle Nyoni told us, ““Our fashion show aims to showcase and give a platform to talented young designers of whom most are students and upcoming, therefore we are trying to give them a foundation to gain exposure as it is a bit difficult to break out in the fashion industry in Zimbabwe.”

So in general the event is supposed to boost designer confidence and expose the designers to new markets in the clothing industry. People who wouldn’t have otherwise known these designers will get to mingle with them and potential venture capitalists may actually spot people they want to invest in. Thus, the opportunity has not only been open to designers.

The exhibit will be held on the 7th of November, 20 15 at 1+1 Longcheng Plaza from 5-9pm and entrance will be $5. Fashion lovers have been told to “expect the unexpected”. Designers showcasing on this day include Maison De Rouge, Blissy Designs, Eclectique Couture, Maricko Nation, Muza Couture, Cici Fashions, Afro Kreations, Trendy A&C and Carol Wutawunashe.

“This show is unique in its simplicity. What we wish to have is people’s attention on the clothing and brands. To have people talk about the talents in each person. Let me just say all shall drown in fashion,” Nobuhle went on to say.

“This fashion show is supposed to give them an opportunity to show us their definition of ‘real fashion,” concluded Don.

So go out ye on the 7th of November to support Zimbabwean Fashion.
