Caps United shoot to top of psl standings

Caps United underpinned their early intent of challenging for the premier soccer league crown after overcoming Triangle 2-1 at Gibbo stadium on Sunday.

Caps United got off to a flying start after mesmerising midfield maestro Joel Ngodzo struck the opener in the 14th minute. The green machine dictated the pace and went to the breather leading 1 nil.

The momentum however swung in the second half with Triangle drawing level in the 54th minute. With the game seemingly headed for a 1 all deadlock, a masterstroke by Lloyd Chitembwe led to the introduction of Ronald Chitiyo whose impact was instant. With Caps constantly on the front foot, Makepekepe’s enterprising play was rewarded when Domonc Chungwa struck a killer blow by scoring what proved an all important winner which handed the green machine a 2-1 victory.

Victory saw Caps United shoot to the top of the log after capitalising on a slip up by FC Platinum who succumbed to a 1 nil defeat at the hands of Telone. It has been a perfect start for Lloyd Chitembwe, given Caps United have won 5 of their first 6 games and now occupy pole position with a game to spare.

Caps United will have an opportunity of stretching their advantage at the top of the standings to 4 points when they host Chapungu at the national sports stadium in a rescheduled encounter which has been slated for Thursday. After capturing the services of Gabriel Nyoni, Phineas Bamusi and Blessing Sarupinda, Makepekepe have looked a different team that looks formidable and a sure bet to challenge for honours this season. The return of Ronald Chitiyo has also added offensive impetus to a Caps United outfit that had already looked menacing.
