Valeria Bhunu falls in Egypt

Valeria Bhunu

Zimbabwean female tennis player Valeria Bhunu suffered early elimination at the Sharm El Sheikh tennis tourney in Egypt. Meeting United States player Eva Siskova in the first round Bhunu was hoping to make the last 16.

Despite such hopes the Zimbabwean had a difficult first set in which she at one point trailed 3-0. Bhunu showed good fighting spirit in bouncing back from 3-0 down to level games at 3-3. Both players would on to their two next two service game as the set was evenly balanced at 5-5. Bhunu’s failure to hold serve in the twelfth game handed the first set to Siskova.

Bhunu showed character in the second set as she went into a 5-3 lead before wrapping off the set 6-4 and in the process leveling the match at 1 set all.

The 20 year old Zimbabwean then struggled in the third set as Eva Siskova raced into a 5-2 lead. Despite Bhunu pulling one game back, her opponent held serve to seal a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win in the first round.
