It’s a new year and it’s not too late to still make some changes to improve your way of living. Although sometimes achieving better mental health might require you to seek professional help, here are some Do It Yourself tips to help you lead a healthy lifestyle.

1. Value yourself:

Treat yourself with kindness and respect and avoid self-criticism. Make time for your hobbies and favorite projects, or broaden your horizons. Get rid of things that are toxic and adopt a positive attitude with everything you do. Be easy on yourself.

2. Enjoy nature

Go outside, the indoor environment protects us from heat, cold and all manner of inclement weather. But if you don’t get outside frequently, you might be doing a number on your mental health.

3. Eat well

Adopt a well balanced diet. Eating well is key to overall health, including your mental well-being. Try incorporating fruits and vegetables in your diet more often.

4. Surround yourself with love

People with strong family or social connections are generally healthier than those who lack a support network. Make plans with supportive family members and friends, or seek out activities where you can meet new people, such as a club, class or support group.

5. Practice gratitude.

Life’s so much better when you’re acknowledging the bright side. Research suggests that expressing what you’re thankful for. Volunteer your time and energy to help someone else. You’ll feel good about doing something tangible to help someone in need.
