Fuel prices hiked. Again.

There is an ongoing outrage over the increase in the price of fuel, yet again. Petrol is now said to be selling at 7.90rtgs and diesel at 7.80 rtgs. The latest development has left many people shocked and worried about the impending transport woes due to the price hikes.

Some service stations have already started implementing the new prices much to the disdain of most people. Fuel prices have been increasing gradually every month. In January this year, the price hikes triggered Nationwide protests which saw the killing of several civilians and a police station in Chitungwiza being set on fire by an angry mob.

The increase in fuel prices has already started having a ripple effect with basic commodities being sold at exhorbitant prices. A 2kg packet of sugar is now being sold at 10rtgs dollars which is beyond the reach of many. After the pronouncement by the government that fuel prices were no longer being guided by the 1:1 ratio, the sad reality is that fuel prices are now being regulated by the black market exchange rate. Most people have expressed their disappointment at the way things are spiralling out of control in Zimbabwe.
