Knox Mutizwa honoured

By Geronimo News

It was a weekend to remember for Zimbabwe international forward Knox Mutizwa after Lamontville Golden Arrows honoured him for being the club’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Mutizwa is now on 51 goals after finding the back of the net in their 1-2 loss to Royal AM in a Premier League clash at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, Durban on Saturday.

As if to motivate the player, Mutizwa’s recognition came just before the match and was furnished with an accolade and probably some cash to accompany the award.

The Zimbabwean had initially surpassed Mabhuti Khanyeza’s previous record of 39 goals in 2021 to take over the club’s all time leading scorer’s crown.

However, leading the pack in the goal scoring ranks is not new to the former Highlanders striker after he was crowned the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League top goal scorer in 2015 with 15 goals.

His goal-scoring prowess would then attract interest from several topflight clubs across the Limpopo the following year.

Affectionately known as Mjomane in the South African football circles, Mutizwa has been one of the most loyal servants of the club since joining Abafana Bes’thende.

He has also helped the club win crucial matches as he has been and still is the main man in front of goal for the Durban based premiership side.

The Golden Boot Award adds to Mutizwa’s accolades by Lamontville Golden Arrows after they, in 2020, also honoured him for his 100th appearance for the club in their clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on January 25.
