Zim man to produce the first ever car wholly made in Africa.

Tatenda Mungofa, a Zimbabwean who is based in South Africa is on the verge of making history as they are currently finishing plans to produce the first ever car to be made wholly in Africa. Mungofa and his team, through their company Mureza, have patnered with an Iranian car manufacturer called SAIPA. The new car will be called Mureza Prim8.

In an exclusive interview with Techzim, Mungofa said that his company comprised of himself as the CEO, Pheladi Chiloane and Thulisa Sosibo. He said that he had found a gap in the automotive industry and wanted to develop a successful commercial automotive. Mangofa also highlighted that the Prim8 will be produced in the first quarter of 2020. Pre order sales will then be available in November.

Mungofa said their target market was mainly the SADC community and the vehicle can accommodate people of all ages. Speaking on the features of the car, he said it will have a 1.3 and 1.5 litre petrol engine and a turbo powered version will also be available. It will also feature 7 inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, satellite navigation, phone sync, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and air conditioning among other top notch features. They are expecting to produce an electric version in the near future.

Mungofa said that they are anticipating to produce 12 000 units per year for the next three years. Querried on why they chose to name their company and car Mureza, Mungofa said they intend on be the flagship of the automotive industry in Africa. Their car has already heen exhibited at the Automechanika event in Johannesburg. Mungofa said it hanit been an easy raod and the major challenge they faced was trying suppliers were not taking them seriously. The Mureza Prim8 will range from 120 thousand rand to 200 000 rand.
